This morning, President Biden directed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue new guidance to employers on COVID-19 health and safety protocols. We are continuing to monitor the administration’s policies and will keep you informed of any major developments. Join us at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, January 26, for our webinar, What Employers Can Expect from the New Administration, where we will discuss significant changes to the employment law landscape as it relates to hotel owners.

We appreciate your engagement and support and will continue to keep you well-informed of political developments and small-business assistance in the coming weeks. Stay well and have a great weekend.

The Latest from Washington, D.C.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn into office on the West front of the U.S. Capitol building. The 59th Presidential Inauguration marks the start of the Biden-Harris administration and an historic day in which the first Indian American, the first Black American, and the first woman will serve as Vice President of the United States. During his remarks, President Biden offered a message of unity and upliftment for the American people.

The President has already begun to lay out his agenda, including COVID-19 relief and national economic stimulus. In an official AAHOA statement released that day, AAHOA President & CEO Cecil P. Staton stated the following: “Small business owners are struggling with the pandemic’s economic fallout, and the plan outlined by President Biden looks to target those industries, such as hospitality, that are experiencing a disproportionate amount of hardship. We are optimistic that the new administration’s focus on the public good will speed along our recovery, and we look forward to working with President Biden and his team to do right by America’s small businesses.”

That same day, President Biden signed 17 executive orders, moving to roll back Trump-era policies while positioning the fledgling administration to tackle the pandemic, climate change, and racial justice. He also released a national strategy to guide the pandemic response. The COVID-19 National Action Plan focuses on vaccine distribution, mask mandates, and provisions to make schooling and travel safer. House Democrats plan to immediately pass President Biden’s pandemic relief bill, yet there are likely roadblocks from GOP members in the Senate. AAHOA will provide legislative updates as Congress and the administration move on the proposed economic stimulus, and we’ll keep our members apprised of the latest news and developments covering the Biden administration’s first 100 days.
