Your Daily AAHOA Update for Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020

A Year-End Message from AAHOA President & CEO Cecil P. Staton

2020 has been a year unlike any other in the history of our industry. While it seems that there was a steady stream of bad news coming at us left and right, today I want to share some good news, which was surprisingly plentiful, all things considered. 2020 came out throwing haymakers, but not only did we not go down, we actually made a great deal of progress.

Member engagement is at an all-time high this year and we put up some impressive numbers across the board. All of us who are members of AAHOA should be extremely proud of our many accomplishments as an association as we reflect on 2020:

2020 by the Numbers

  • 1 virtual Convention

  • 8 virtual Regional Conferences & Trade Shows, with industry leaders and experts connecting hoteliers to the info they need right now

  • 19 In-person events

  • 23 Call-to-Action campaigns with more than 61,000 letters sent, 16,291 alone sent in our 15,000 Letters. One Purpose. One More Time campaign

  • 65 Virtual Events with more than 5,000 attendees

  • 240+ Webcasts (206 on COVID-19-related topics) with nearly 40,000 touchpoints, a 185% increase over last year

  • 267 speakers and subject-matter experts at our webcasts and virtual events

  • 200+ Daily Digests, giving hotel owners and the industry at large the latest info they need in a quick and easy format

  • $113K raised at 2 Charity Golf Tournaments

  • 10 new Industry Partners, even in a tough year

And this list doesn’t even include all the strides we’ve made this year. We made hundreds of calls to brand leadership on behalf of franchisee members, and our Government Affairs team held hundreds of meetings and calls with lawmakers, and coalition and advocacy partners pressing Congress for financial relief for struggling hoteliers. We accomplished so much more this year than anybody could have foreseen when this pandemic first struck. But we did it, and I couldn’t be more proud of our association and our members.

Now, with 2021 just around the bend, we all have more reason to be optimistic than we’ve had in months. A new stimulus package has been passed, so another round of PPP is forthcoming to help struggling hoteliers, and an effective vaccine is even now being distributed around the nation, which will allow us to once again hold in-person events, including AAHOACON21 May 4-7 in Dallas. It will be great to get together in person once again, and I hope to see all of you there.

Use these final days of 2020 to enjoy the holiday season with your family and friends and keep your eyes on the prize -- recovery. It will be slow and take more time than we’d like, but be assured, it is coming. The road to recovery runs through AAHOA! And we will get there together, because we remain what we always have been: #AAHOASTRONG.

Happy New Year,

Cecil P. Staton

AAHOA President & CEO
