Human Trafficking Training Available to Help Hotel Owners and Operators Meet New State Mandate
In an effort to crack down on human trafficking across Florida, a new law is going into effect mandating that all lodging establishments provide annual human trafficking awareness training for housekeeping and front desk employees. The state will require hotel owners and operators to provide training for new employees within 60 days after they begin employment in a housekeeping or reception area role, or by January 1, 2021, whichever occurs later. Training must be re-administered annually. Businesses that do not comply with this new mandate face a fine of up to $2,000 a day. Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST), an industry leader in anti-trafficking education and prevention partnered with AAHOA to offer a 30-minute, online, video-based training for hotel employees. Inhospitable to Human Trafficking Training sponsored by AAHOA helps employees understand and identify the signs of potential trafficking situations in hotels and how they can safely report it.
The Florida Division of Hotels & Restaurants recently certified that Inhospitable to Human Trafficking Training sponsored by AAHOA meets the requirements set forth in section 509.096 of the Florida State Statute as an approved human trafficking awareness training program that lodging establishments can use to satisfy the new state mandate.

Hotel Business: 35% of Holiday Travelers Prefer Hotel Over Staying with Family
As 2020 winds down, 81% of Americans say they are especially grateful for their family this year, according to new research from Motel 6. The economy lodging brand released its third annual holiday travel survey revealing that, on average, Americans have not seen their extended family in five months. Even though respondents are looking forward to seeing their family, a bit of space can be nice. Three in five (61%) said they would enjoy the holidays more if they were not all staying under one roof. A third of respondents (35%) said they are more likely to stay at a hotel or motel this holiday season, with half (50%) saying they would consider it to ensure personal privacy. That was followed by their family not having enough space (44%) and being easier to socially distance (43%) when they are not all under the same roof.

"First of all, congratulations on pulling off the impossible! That was an incredible feat to be able to put together a virtual convention with so little time. You all did a fantastic job. I enjoyed watching the whole convention on my laptop without having to take a flight or put on a suit. All the speeches, presentations and discussions were great! Our hats off to you and you were GREAT as usual. Congratulations again on a successful convention given the difficult situation. Thank you."
