AAHOA Members,

Last week, I was proud to see the hospitality industry rally together during the 2020 AAHOA Virtual Convention & Trade Show. We are all united on the road to recovery, and it was truly an honor to connect, learn, and forge the future of our association and industry throughout AAHOACON20. It was certainly not what I expected for my first AAHOA convention, but the tireless work of our AAHOA team and volunteer leaders, commitment from AAHOA partners, and the incredible engagement from AAHOA Members made it possible despite the unusual circumstances.

I’m already looking forward to joining you all in person at next year’s convention in Dallas, May 4-7.

Earlier this week, I joined Michael Bull, host of America’s Commercial Real Estate Show, to discuss AAHOACON20, CMBS loans, and upcoming AAHOA events. You can listen to this episode here. We also hosted a virtual event with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts that you can playback here, and have another on the slate next week with Radisson Hotel Group. AAHOA is continuing to produce industry-leading webcasts, virtual events, and educational resources for you and your business. All of our past and upcoming webcasts are available here, and all of our other content is readily available in our COVID-19 resource center.

AAHOA is here for you every step of the way, and I want to thank you for communicating and working with us as we lead our industry during these challenging times.

AAHOA President & CEO

Hotel Owners Brace for a ‘Bumpy’ Road Ahead As Fallout from COVID-19 Continues

When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the U.S. in earnest in March, Ridgemont Hospitality CEO Sima Patel planned for a roughly three-month disruption. But the disruptions continue five months later. “We thought ‘We’ll be out of this in 90 days,’” she said in the “Hotelier Insights: Recovery and Looking Past the Pandemic” session during the 2020 AAHOA Virtual Convention & Trade Show last week. “We planned according to that. We started with RevPAR dropping by 85% (year-over-year) to now we are seeing about 59%, which is good.” Read the full Hotel News Now article here.

The House announced on Monday that it intends to come back into session this weekend. While in session, the House may vote on some level of coronavirus relief as well. Hotel Impossible Host Anthony Melchiorri Appeals to Congress on Behalf of Hoteliers

Anthony Melchiorri recently appealed to Congress in a video message on August 13 to address the liquidity crisis facing the nation's hotel owners as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The men and women I work with every day, like the hotel owners at AAHOA, are facing a dire financial crisis that threatens to shutter thousands of businesses across the country,” said Melchiorri. He also urged lawmakers to take substantive measures to help hoteliers by enacting measures to aid hoteliers during this liquidity crisis. Watch the full video here.
