Hotel Impossible Host Anthony Melchiorri Appeals to Congress on Behalf of Hoteliers

Anthony Melchiorri, CEO of Argeo Hospitality and host of Travel Channel’s Hotel Impossible, appealed to Congress in a video message on August 13 to address the liquidity crisis facing the nation's hotel owners as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The men and women I work with every day, like the hotel owners at AAHOA, are facing a dire financial crisis that threatens to shutter thousands of businesses across the country,” said Melchiorri, host of the hospitality industry’s top podcast, Anthony Melchiorri Live.

“Congress needs to do right by these small businesses and help preserve the millions of jobs they create." Melchiorri urged lawmakers to take substantive measures to help hoteliers by enacting measures such as a second round of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), banking relief for holders of commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS) loans, access to the Main Street Lending Program for commercial real estate, and increased resources for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program. GSA Keeps Per Diem Rates for 2021 at Same Level As 2020 Rates

The General Service Administration on Friday released the FY2021 per diem rates for government travel within the continental United States. While there had been concern within the hospitality industry that the FY2021 rates might be updated to reflect a COVID-19 landscape, the announcement by GSA revealed per diem rates at the same level as FY2020: $96 for the standard lodging rate and $55 for meal and incidental expenses (M&IE).

The per diem rates are the maximum allowances that federal employees are reimbursed for expenses incurred while on official travel in the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia.
