AAHOA President & CEO: America’s Hotel Owners Optimistic About HOPE Act

AAHOA President & CEO Cecil P. Staton issued a statement yesterday in response to the introduction of the Helping Open Properties Endeavor (HOPE) Act of 2020, a bill to provide relief to small businesses, like hotels, that hold commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS) loans. The legislation would require the Department of Treasury to establish a facility to guarantee certain preferred equity investments in CMBS borrowers impacted by COVID-19. STR: Data Shows Slightly Higher Occupancy and Room Rates from the Previous Week

U.S. hotel performance data for the week ending July 25 showed slightly higher occupancy and room rates from the previous week, according to STR. U.S. occupancy has risen week over week for 14 of the past 15 weeks, although growth in demand (room nights sold) has slowed.

July 19-25, 2020 (percentage change from comparable week in 2019):

  • Occupancy: 48.1% (-37.9%)
  • Average daily rate (ADR): US$99.24 (-27.3%)
  • Revenue per available room (RevPAR): US$47.75 (-54.8%)
