Battle Over COVID-19 Relief Consumes Congress’ Final Sprint to Recess

As Congress reconvenes this week in Washington, D.C., at the top of the agenda is to finalize and pass a phase 4 coronavirus relief bill before the next recess begins on August 7. Democrats passed their version of a relief bill, the HEROES Act, in May, while Republican leadership is expected to release its draft bill as early as Thursday. One of the holdups on the GOP bill is Senate Majority Leader McConnell’s insistence that liability protections for businesses be included in the next COVID-19 bill.

Our fight for relief and protection for the hospitality industry is not over. AAHOA is in constant contact with leaders at the state and federal levels to advocate for relief for America’s hotel owners. Read the full article here.

NY Times Creates Tracker to Follow Progress of Coronavirus Vaccine

The New York Times has created a Coronavirus Vaccine Tracker, which curates the status of more than 165 vaccines that are currently in some stage of development worldwide. Of the 165, 27 are in human trials. Vaccines typically require years of research and testing before reaching the clinic, but scientists are racing to produce a safe and effective vaccine by next year in an effort to stop the worldwide spread of COVID-19.

The vaccine tracker gives the status of all the vaccines that have reached trials in humans, along with a selection of promising vaccines still being tested in cells or animals. The NYT also gives an overview of different COVID-19 treatments in its Coronavirus Drug and Treatment Tracker.
