Ballotti advocated for issues important to AAHOA members, including the PPP Flexibility Act introduced by the House of Representatives. “The PPP Act has been monumental… [Our franchisees] view the [PPP] as an absolute lifeline,” Ballotti said.

“This is going to be a long recovery although we’ve remained open.” Tune in at 35:40 to hear Ballotti’s full remarks.

Urge Senate Leaders to Support the PPP Flexibility Act

On Thursday, May 28, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Flexibility Act, legislation that makes favorable changes to the PPP. The bipartisan vote was nearly unanimous at 417-1. Encourage Congress to support the PPP Flexibility Act now. We need you to sign this letter to your representatives and senators urging them to support the legislation.

The Senate is simultaneously considering its own version of the bill as the House bill heads to the Senate for consideration.

The Senate could choose to pass an amended version of the House bill or, if the Senate’s version is passed, a conference committee may be called to resolve differences.

The House version of the PPP Flexibility Act would give small businesses more time to use their PPP loans by extending the eight-week period in which they have to use the funds to qualify for loan forgiveness to 24 weeks. It also provides more flexibility by changing the ratio of payroll costs; the new ratio would set limits for at least 60% of funds to be used on payroll and no more than 40% on other costs. In addition, the legislation would allow businesses that receive PPP loan forgiveness to defer payroll taxes.

Summit Addresses Consumer Safety Concerns As Businesses Begin to Reopen
If you reopen, will they come or will they stay away out of fear for their health and safety? That was the central question being asked Thursday night at a reopening summit organized by AAHOA Members Azim and Navroz Saju through their HDG Hotel Development and Management Group in Marion County, FL. “We’re focused on keeping our employees healthy, our guests healthy,” said Navroz Saju, CEO of HDG, which operates 18 hotels in Central Florida. Navroz said the state’s reopening was important, but that building consumer confidence is essential.

Carol Dover, President and CEO of the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, said her group is implementing COVID-19 safety training classes and certification and will start promoting the training effort to the public in the coming weeks to try and assuage customer concerns about dining out or staying in a hotel.
