Dear AAHOA Members,

Time and time again, I see the strength and spirit of service our AAHOA community exemplifies. This past week, Lifetime Members Dimple Patel, Jigisha Patel, and Villas Patel took part in a new AAHOA initiative to create care packages for those in need in their local communities. Their charitable efforts and the countless actions of other AAHOA Members are truly a testament of what it means to be #AAHOASTRONG.

After a brief pause in COVID-19 relief legislation, Congress is looking to move forward with negotiations on the CARES Act 2.0 as well as regulatory changes to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Early this week, we joined AHLA, the Latino Hotel Association, and NABHOOD to send a coalition letter to Congressional leadership, detailing our industry’s priorities for CARES 2.0. You can read more about what AAHOA is fighting for here. Also, I encourage you to take action in the latest advocacy campaign and urge your members of Congress to support critical regulatory changes to the PPP.

We will continue to provide the most updated information and resources to assist you in navigating the evolving pandemic landscape. I hope that you and your loved ones enjoy a relaxing Memorial Day weekend.

Cecil P. Staton

AAHOA President & CEO

We ask that you sign this letter to your representatives and senators urging them to support the PPP Flexibility Act.

U.S. and State Chambers of Commerce Send Letter to Lawmakers on Liability Relief Legislation

This week, a coalition of the nation’s chambers of commerce sent a letter to members of Congress urging them to pass targeted liability relief legislation to provide businesses a safe harbor from unwarranted lawsuits that undermine the safe and orderly return to work for millions of Americans. Despite employers’ best efforts to comply with public health guidance, many are concerned that they will be forced to defend themselves against a wave of lawsuits, many of which have already been filed. Read the entire letter here.

House Set to Vote Next Week on Enhancements to the Paycheck Protection Program
Next week, the House plans to vote on legislation to revamp the Paycheck Protection Program, initially created in the CARES Act. AAHOA and a coalition of partner associations sent a letter in support of the enhancements to the legislation, which is the lifeblood for many businesses. The bipartisan Paycheck Protection Flexibility Act would make modifications to the small business lending program, including allowing forgiveness for expenses beyond the 8-week covered period and eliminating the requirement that 75% of the loan go toward payroll.

Delta CEO: We Will Begin Adding More Flights in June and July as Domestic Travel Picks Up

Delta Air Lines CEO Edward Bastian told Fox Business Network on Wednesday that the airlines will start adding more flights this summer as domestic travel starts to slowly rise amid the coronavirus pandemic. “Today our load factor on Delta is somewhere about 35%-40% full,” Bastian said in an interview. “Once we get close to 60% on an individual route, that’ll be the trigger for us to add more planes into the system.” Bastian said he expected to add about 200 flights in June, and probably another 200 or 300 flights in July.

Article: Revenue Management in a Crisis – THINK DIFFERENT

As economies around the nation begin to reopen in earnest, here’s been much talk about “getting back to normal” and operating in the “new normal.” But that is impossible. The long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality industry are unknown and unknowable. How can you forecast and plan for a situation none of us have ever been in before? You can’t. But what we do know is that revenue managers will need to become revenue creators in this drastically changed landscape. And to do that, they will need to bring to bear their most powerful weapon – their brains.

GBTA Poll: Positive Signs for a Return to Travel on the Horizon, But Health, Safety Still Paramount
There are small signs of optimism in the travel industry, as 54% of the Global Business Travel Association’s membership say they are considering resuming traveling in the near future. But health and safety will continue to be of paramount importance. “People aren’t going to travel until they feel safe,” GBTA CEO Scott Solombrino said. “Our member companies want to see several health and safety steps taken at every stage of the travel process – from ground transportation to airlines, to hotels.”

That finding was one of many from GBTA’s seventh poll taken among its 1,705 member companies May 13-15. See the full results here.
