LEAD Upgrade Coming January 2025

On January 9, ABFAS will launch a redesigned LEAD platform, driven by Diplomate feedback and best practices for longitudinal assessments. Updates and new features will improve your overall experience, so LEAD remains relevant and easy to use.

Please note: The LEAD site will be unavailable January 1–8 as we transition to the new platform. As a reminder, LEAD Quarter 4 closes on December 31, 2024, at 11:59 pm PT, if you are planning to participate.
 

Are You Up to Date on Your Non-Assessment Requirements?

In addition to participation in the LEAD program, you must meet the following non-assessment requirements to renew your ABFAS Board Certification:

• Maintain an active, unrestricted podiatric license in the United States or Canada.

• Be surgically active and maintain active surgical privileges at either a hospital or surgical center.*

• Obtain 100 continuing education credits in each five-year period per ten-year cycle.*

*Diplomates attest to having performed foot and/or RRA surgery within the last two (2) years and that they have met CME credit requirements when accessing LEAD. There is no need to send in documentation; however, ABFAS may perform audits to ensure Diplomates’ attestations are accurate. 

Surgeons of Tomorrow Winners Announced

On November 15, ABFAS announced the winners of the 2024 Surgeons of Tomorrow Student Conference Scholarship Contest. Jordan Jefferson from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine won in the written essay category, and JoAnn Micah Sedoriosa from Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science won in the video category.

More than 50 podiatric medical students from across the nation submitted video and essay entries, articulating why ABFAS Board Certification is important to them as aspiring podiatric surgeons and how they will use it to benefit their patients. The winners were selected by members of the ABFAS Communications Committee.

Where Are They Now: An Interview with Dr. Diana Rogers by Dr. Ksenja Llazar

Presented by ABFAS, the Michael L. Stone, DPM, Outstanding Professional Conduct Awards recognize graduating seniors from each podiatric medical college or school who exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, deportment, and ethics in their interactions with peers, patients, professors, and staff. These exceptional students often go on to become acclaimed foot and ankle surgeons and leaders in the field.

Recently, 2024 Stone Award recipient Ksenja Llazar, DPM, sat down with 2008 Stone Award recipient Diana Rogers, DPM, FACFAS, on how the achievement shaped her career, her successes along the way, and setting the record straight on misconceptions about podiatry.

Annual Newsletter Available Online

Each year, ABFAS publishes and sends its annual print newsletter to Diplomates and ABFAS Board-qualified DPMs. The newsletter is also available online.

In this year's edition:
