A Truck Crash in Illinois Kills 5 Seriously Injures 5
Forces an Evacuation of Over 500 Due to Ammonia Leak

Five people were killed and five were seriously injured after a truck overturned in central Illinois, causing a toxic substance to leak from its cargo and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of area residents. Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said the five dead included three from the same family — one adult and two children under 12. The other two were adult motorists from out of state. 

Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) Associated with COVID-19 in Georgia

The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have developed a standardized surveillance case definition for multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. MIS-C is reportable in Georgia, and suspect cases should be reported to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH).

FEMA doing NIMS Resource Management Survey for Feedback on NIMS Resources and Tools

FEMA has released the 2023 NIMS Resource Management Survey on the Preparedness Toolkit website. The survey offers jurisdictions an opportunity to recommend enhancements for NIMS programming. This includes the National Qualification System (NQS), resource typing, mutual aid, emergency operations center (EOC) skillsets and tools, and more.

Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Launch Nationwide Cybersecurity Public Awareness Campaign

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) announced the launch of “Secure Our World,” a nationwide cybersecurity public awareness campaign to educate all Americans on how to stay safe online. The campaign includes a public service announcement (PSA) that will air on stations around the country, as well as digital content, a toolkit, and other resources. Recognizing that technology is an integral part of our modern lives, Congress tasked CISA with creating this program to provide small businesses, communities, and individuals with the guidance and tools they need to protect themselves online.
