CMS Resources for Hurricane Response

 

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has prepared resources for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries and providers that have information about getting care and prescriptions in a disaster or emergency area. CMS also has guidance for Medicare Advantage Organizations (MAOs) and Part D Plan Sponsors reminding these entities of their obligations for beneficiaries in areas under a state of emergency.

 

Flu Season is Coming: CDC Announces Flu Shot Recommendations

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made its annual flu shot recommendations for health professionals ahead of flu season. They again underscore the importance of flu shots: Preliminary estimates show that last season, people vaccinated against the flu were about 40% to 70% less likely to be hospitalized because of flu illness or related complications, according to the CDC.

 

Maintain Heightened Awareness for Vaccine Preventable Diseases

 

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) confirmed a case of rubella. All close contacts have been identified, offered vaccination if they are unimmunized and are undergoing active monitoring. 

 

Feds Seek Help with Health Care Cybersecurity Protection

 

The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), a division within the Health and Human Services Department, is seeking "proven technologies developed for national security" that can be used to counter cybersecurity attacks. 

 

Pfizer Could Restart Production at Tornado-Hit Plant by Early Q4

 

Pfizer said on Monday it expects to restart production at its North Carolina plant by the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2023 as it seeks to repair tornado damage to one of the world's largest sterile injectable drug facilities. The facility was struck by a tornado on July 19, and Pfizer had earlier said some drugs, including painkiller fentanyl, could see a supply disruption.
