Dear Neighbor,

As the holidays and the end of the year approach, I continue to work on your behalf both at the Statehouse and in the district. It is my privilege to serve as your State Senator, and it is always my goal to understand the issues or concerns of those whom I represent.

If you have any thoughts or suggestions on how to improve our community, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office at (614) 466-8156 or

Expanding Broadband Access to Schools
COVID-19 has created unprecedented challenges for the current school year, and I am glad that the BroadbandOhio Connectivity Grant will help to remove barriers that may be faced by students attending school virtually. In collaboration with BroadbandOhio, we have awarded over $3 million in funding to provide hotspots and internet-enabled devices to students in the 17th Senate District.
Repealing Curfew of Alcohol Sales
Senate President Larry Obhof and I recently introduced Senate Bill 374 which provides relief to Ohio’s restaurants and bars by repealing the Ohio Liquor Control Commission’s Emergency Rule of July 31, 2020. The rule currently bans the sale of alcohol past 10 p.m. and the consumption of alcohol past 11 p.m.

According to a
recent survey by the Ohio Restaurant Association, more than half of all Ohio restaurants anticipate being forced to close down if current restrictions continue. Over 80 percent of such businesses anticipate being unable to break even for the year, and many have already been forced to permanently close.

These businesses, many of them family owned, have proven their ability to endure safe dining and a safe workplace. We are comitted to removing unnecessary regulations to allow those that are responsibly working to provide for their families, employ their fellow Ohioans, and play an important role in our economy's recovery.

The Ohio FFA's Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference was held virtually on September 30th. As an FFA alum myself, I am happy to see so many young people involved, especially during these unprecedented times. I had the opportunity to speak at the conference about what FFA means to me. I truly believe that FFA is developing the next generation of leaders, both in this state, and the country.
This past month, I was able to welcome and present Platform Coffee House, a new business in Washington Court House, with a commendation from the Ohio Senate. It is exciting to see the influx of small businesses to the 17th Senate District!
I am looking to feature small businesses from the 17th Senate District in our future newsletters. If you know of a small business that you would like featured, or if you would like your own business featured, please email
