An Update from State Senator Kristina Roegner

Dear Neighbor,
In 1621, the pilgrims at Plymouth Plantation Massachusetts, together with their native American neighbors, enjoyed a 3 day long "Celebration of Good Harvest." Over a century and a half later in 1789, a day of public Thanksgiving was offically recognized as a national holiday through a Proclamation by President Washington.

Over the years the dates have varied a bit, but the sentiment has stayed the same.  We give thanks as a nation for the bounty and blessings in our lives. My favorite quote for Thanksgiving is;
"Give thanks to the Lord for he is good and His Love endures forever." (1 Chronicles 16:34)
In this newsletter you will find an update on a few things that I've been up to in recent weeks, both in Columbus and across our 27th Senate District.   As always, remember that I'm here to serve you. I love to hear from my constituents on the issues that matter to them.

It is a true honor to represent you in the Ohio Statehouse and I hope you enjoy reading this month's newsletter and I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday together!

In Thanksgiving,

State Senator Kristina Roegner
27th Senate District
Occupational Licensure Reciprocity Legislation
This month during a press conference, I announced new legislation to  provide for full occupational license reciprocity.

Currently the lack of full licensure reciprocity in Ohio makes it difficult for skilled, licensed workers from other states  to move to Ohio and work in their field. Security guards, EMTs and nurses don't forget how to do their jobs when they cross state lines and
our laws should reflect that common sense reality.
This bill makes Ohio a leader in encouraging these types of workers to move to Ohio. Watch the full press conference here
Thanking Our Veterans
It was a true privilege over the Veterans Day weekend to join with other leaders in Canal Fulton to thank our veterans for their service to our country.  We owe our nation's veterans such a tremendous debt for preserving our freedom from tyranny and oppression. Though we can never repay this debt, it was an honor to have the opportunity to thank our nation's heroes.

Be sure to thank the veterans in your life this month (and every month) for their sacrifice on behalf of our country.
Orrville Boys & Girls Club
I loved exploring the Boys & Girls Club facilities in Orrville. Boys and Girls Clubs provide after-school activities for children in our communities. The Orrville club hosts sports leagues, provides homework assistance and more.

Visiting Pioneer Equipment in Shreve
I had the privilege to visit Pioneer Equipment in Shreve earlier this month to learn about the great work the Wengerd family and their company are doing in the Dalton area. Pioneer Equipment is a leading manufacturer of premium horse-drawn equipment right here in Wayne County.

Pioneer Equipment has been owned and operated by the Wengerd family for over 40 years. Read more about their story below.
Tuscarawas River Flooding Meeting
Earlier this month I had the chance to sit down with experts from a number of different government bodies, including the Army Corps of Engineers, United States Geological Survey, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, local mayors, and others to discuss the flooding issues that have been taking place along the Tuscarawas River near Canal Fulton and Clinton.
I am grateful for the hard work that each of these men and women have been doing to try and help mitigate future damage from flooding in these communities.
Meeting with Constituents in Wooster
I regularly schedule office hours throughout the 27th District in order to sit down with my neighbors in the community and learn about the issues that are most important to them.

If you'd like to join me for a district meeting near you, just call my office at 614-466-4823 and my staff will update you on my next appointment.

Prematurity Awareness Month
November is National Prematurity Awarness month. One out of every ten babies born in 2018 was born premature, with preterm and low birth weight explaining about 17% of infant deaths.

Learn about signs and symptoms of premature labor as well as potential risk factors to help reduce the frequency of premature births, as well as ways to help both the mother and child when they do happen.
This month the Senate passed legislation allowing active duty service members and their families to qualify for in-state tuition at Ohio's public colleges and universities. With Veteran's Day taking place earlier this month, this bill is another way to say thank you to the heroes who serve our country each day. If you'd like to learn more about this legislation, click here.
