ACTU's claims on far-from-modest IR changes do not bear scrutiny

If the Federal Government's proposed industrial relations changes are simply "modest", as claimed by ACTU secretary Sally McManus earlier this week, Australian employers and their workforces would be intrigued to know what unions would see as their real demands, Ai Group Chief Executive Innes Willox wrote in an opinion piece published in Wednesday's Australian Financial Review. What is being proposed is a radical makeover of the Australian workplace relations system.

Ai Group today announced another milestone in the move to digitalisation in the building and construction industry through the completion of action to implement the ETIM product classification model for electrical products. ETIM enables manufacturers of products to provide technical information relating to their products in a common format.

Construction climbing out of contraction
|
The Ai Group Australian Industry Index® eased in October, with a broader range of industrial businesses reporting contractionary conditions as the index recorded an 18th month in negative territory. While the employment, activity and new orders indicators all fell, the Australian PCI® construction indicator continued a rally, rising strongly into expansion to post its highest result since March 2021.

Ai Group is representing business in an advisory group established by the NSW Government to address workplace sexual harassment. Helen Waldron, Ai Group’s NSW Head and Nicola Street, Ai Group’s Director of Workplace Relations Policy, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, have been invited to join and share their expertise with the NSW Respect at Work Advisory Group, which met for the first time last week.

Second round of grants up for grabs for Victoria's manufacturers
|
Ai Group is urging manufacturers in Victoria to apply for a new round of government grants of between $50,000 and $250,000 – a tremendous opportunity for the State’s manufacturers to boost growth and innovation. Recipients of the first round of 2023 grants were recently announced, with 14 manufacturers sharing $3.2million of funding and creating 138 new jobs.
