7 September 2023: Message from the CEO
|
Latest IR changes – HAVE YOUR SAY
|
Your views can help us to deliver a clear message to Canberra about industry concerns with the latest IR laws before Parliament.
How would your business respond operationally to the proposed changes? You can email me at ceo@aigroup.com.au with how you think the IR changes will impact your business.

These laws are set to up-end rules around casuals and how they are employed; impose costly and extremely burdensome new rules related to the payment of labour hire workers; and give the Fair Work Commission a raft of new powers to regulate the engagement of contractors in not only the ‘gig economy’ and road transport sector but potentially a raft of other sectors.
They will also give unions much greater access and influence at workplaces regardless of how many members they have; and impose extreme new penalties for non-compliance with industrial instruments, including jail terms.
Our latest media statements can be found at the top of our In the News section below.

7 September 2023: Workplace Relations Reform
|
Senate IR Bill inquiry a welcome move to allow for proper scrutiny
|
Today's move by the Senate to establish an inquiry into the latest changes to workplace regulation is a welcome move that will provide more time for proper scrutiny of the planned laws. A comprehensive inquiry is essential, given the breadth, scope and impact of the Government's proposed measures on employers, their workers, casual workers, labour hire employees, contractors, transport workers and gig workers.

Advantage Isn’t Enough: How Can Australia Turn Energy Superpower Dreams Into Reality?

5 September 2023: The Economy
|
National Accounts – Ai Group comment
|
While the economy is not slowing as rapidly as expected, it continues to be affected by the policy measures aimed at reducing inflation. With inflation looking to be on a downwards trajectory and further slowing of the economy in the pipeline, there is certainly no pressure for additional interest rate rises as long as prices and wages do not leap higher.

ATO: New Luxury Car Tax Determination
|
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has recently published a luxury car tax (LCT) determination on how to establish the principal purpose of a vehicle, following consultation on the draft determination.
LCT does not apply to commercial vehicles which have the principal purpose of carrying goods.
If you (including manufacturers and car dealers) modify luxury vehicles, the ATO encourages you to read this determination. It explains how to determine whether a car's 'principal purpose' is to carry passengers, or goods for LCT purposes. It also provides taxpayers with additional guidance on what cars are considered commercial vehicles, and when modifications to a car will effect a change in its principal purpose and if LCT will apply.
Check you're up to date with LCT obligations by viewing the determination.
