The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Tony Burke, has foreshadowed a welcome opportunity to consult with business on the next tranche of IR reforms planned for later this year. While he referred to fixing loopholes in the legislation passed last year, we also hope and expect that he will be open to looking at addressing real and emerging problems with the new laws that need fixing.

CEOs ready to fight back
|
An Ai Group webinar last week examined the results of our latest CEO survey, revealing that business leaders think 2023 is going to look a lot like 2022: continued upside for market and demand, continued downside for supply. But the difference in 2023 is that businesses are ready for it and are fighting back with clear, developed investment programs to combat staff shortages, supply chain disruptions and surging prices. “Time will tell whether these strategies are going to be enough,” said Ai Group Director of Economics Research, Jeffrey Wilson.

Construction Sector: Commonwealth Games opportunities
|
|
|
|
The Andrews Labor Government has opened the expression of interest process for the construction sector to build the Commonwealth Games villages across the regions, ahead of Victoria 2026.
The Games villages will be home to around 7,000 athletes and officials in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Morwell when the Commonwealth Games get underway in March 2026.
These projects will create opportunities for regional contractors to be involved in construction, supporting hundreds of jobs.
