Personal, sick and carers leave on the up again

The latest MYOB Personal Leave Index data shows that after a notable decline in September 2022, personal, sick and carers leave taken by SME employees again began to uptick in October 2022, rising to 22% above a seasonally adjusted average.

Victoria and Queensland recorded the highest percentage change – both at 32% above a pre-COVID baseline – and wholesale trade was the most impacted industry, at 71%.

With COVID cases on the rise again, SMEs could be in for another challenging summer, after seeing sick, personal and carers leave levels reach more than 100% above a pre-COVID baseline in January at the top of this year.

Evaluation of the Australian Industry Participation (AIP) policy

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources is undertaking an Impact Evaluation of the Australian Industry Participation (AIP) policy and is seeking the involvement of industry stakeholders.

The evaluation seeks to answer the overarching question: Has AIP policy provided Australian businesses full, fair and reasonable opportunity to participate in major projects and large Commonwealth Government funded projects, while minimising the regulation’s burden on procurement entities?

This week the department released a public facing survey seeking the views of relevant project suppliers, project proponents, peak bodies and unions. The survey will be open for approximately three weeks and will close on Friday 9 December 2022.
