Cassie is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OzFish, Australia’s only fishing conservation charity.
Having recently marked their 10th anniversary, FRDC has supported OzFish’s restoration efforts through empowering recreational fishers as stewards of our nation’s waterways right from the start.
Through 2015-501, OzFish in collaboration with recreational fishers, held 13 fish habitat forums and masterclasses in six states and territories. These sessions led to the improved capacity of recreational fishers to undertake fish habitat restoration works including resnagging, revegetation and clean-ups as well as habitat mapping and monitoring.
More recently, Cassie, spearheaded the National Recreational Fishing Forum Series as part of the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF) (2024-048). This forum sparked important conversations around recreational fisher stewardship, the need for recreational fishing data and the powerful intersection recreational fishers can have in bolstering citizen science.
This year Cassie will be attending the World Recreational Fisheries Conference (WRFC) in South Africa (2025-027). Her attendance at the conference, along with 13 other delegates, will provide continuity to the topics discussed at the forum. It will also be an opportunity for Australia to learn from the world’s best in recreational fisheries management.
With a background in fisheries and aquaculture management, a strong affinity for ecological restoration, and experience working with not-for-profits, Cassie describes the role as her “dream job.”
