Hopkins Repeals Truth-In-Sale Program
Hopkins City Council voted to repeal Chapter 20, Article II, Truth-In-Sale of Housing (TISH), on January 5, removing it from the city code. The City noted the program had been a significant cost center for the city, fees were not covering program costs, and felt it was uncomprehensive by comparison to buyers inspections. “We are pleased the City has decided to discontinue TISH. We believe consumers will still be well protected with the more comprehensive buyers inspections that are common in most transactions,” said Eric Myers, MAR Director of Government Affairs. The TISH program will be discontinued on January 14, however the City will not be requiring it prior to that date. City officials expressed hope that this change will help streamline transactions. See MAR's letter supporting TISH repeal.
