Carers WA has welcomed important improvements to the NDIS Amendment Bill, describing them as a positive step towards better recognising the vital role of carers and families in supporting people with disability.
But significant gaps remain. Every year, unpaid carers provide more than 2.2 billion hours of care. When support services are reduced, delayed or unavailable, that responsibility doesn't disappear. Too often, it falls on families already carrying so much. A sustainable NDIS requires sustainable carers.

| "There is a chronic under-representation of young carers."
Laura Thomas, Manager of the Young Carer Team at Carers WA, recently spoke with
Youth JAM about the challenges facing young carers in Western Australia.
From low awareness in schools and communities to the social impact of caring responsibilities, many young carers continue to go unseen and unsupported.
