Young workers have an amplified risk of experiencing physical and psychosocial harm in the workplace and this must be assessed and addressed by employers, Work Health and Safety (WHS) experts said at a recent webinar for Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) members. Those aged 25 and under are more likely to be bullied and peer-pressured, experience harassment and have feelings of low job control. It means employers need to implement and deliver #safetymeasures in a way that engages these workers and creates inclusive cultures so young people feel safe to speak up and share concerns, panellists from Bunnings, Agostino Group and Mayfield Group Holdings said. Shout-out to these Ai Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre apprentices for shining the spotlight on the need for schools to boost awareness of career opportunities within #manufacturing. Kynan Batey, hosted to Hosico Engineering Group ; Blake Sloan, hosted to Marand Precision Engineering Pty Ltd and Mitchell Adam, hosted to ARB Corporation Ltd; shared their views on a discussion panel at Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance's recent National Manufacturing Workforce Forum in Melbourne. They said students were potentially missing out on rewarding careers if schools failed to make them aware of the possibilities of entering the manufacturing industry. “You don't hear about manufacturing in schools,” Mitchell told the audience in Melbourne. Some people thrive in meetings. They love the discussion, the decision making and even the difference of opinion. Others would rather go to the dentist than invest another minute in frustrating conversations. It seems that on top of dealing with long agendas, workers are sick of putting up with disruptive and non-productive behaviours and are choosing to opt out of non-essential meetings. In her latest blog post, Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) #hrexpert Georgina Pacor identifies common disruptive meeting behaviours and shares tips to overcome them with confidence. ⬇ #aigroup #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #meetingetiquette

Production at a fourth-generation #confectionery business in #adelaide comes to an end today. Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) member Smyth’s Confectionery, established as a sweets stall in Adelaide Central Market in 1910, made the difficult decision to close after the site of its 3500m2 production facility was acquired by the South Australian Government for the T2D road project. Managing Director Peter Smyth said it had been an honour to continue the success of the Smyths before him. “The generations before us made some pretty good decisions,” he said. “We never got too big for our boots. We stuck at our game, formed great relationships over the years and grew at our own pace. "It's been a great ride." 🍬 Read more about the family that brought you Christmas Mix assorted lollies and Apricot Bites. ⬇ #aigroup #memberengagement Jennifer Thompson Tim Piper AM Deep Patel Kylie McCoy Estha van der Linden Wendy Larter

Such an important topic — thanks for bringing it to light, James Scotland and Rhiannon Willis. ⬇ #aigroup #supplycircles
All things supply chain transition: especially Defence Industry, Industry Development and Supply Chain Management
This fortnight's #SupplyCircles podcast is now available. And its a good one! 😀 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gPyhDWsz To coincide with Anzac Day, this episode unpacks the concerning emerging issue for ex-Defence personnel in your business and your supply chain. The Defence Amendment (Safeguarding Australia’s Military Secrets) Bill 2023 came into law in Australia on the 8th April 2024. The act has two arms: the first impacts ex-Defence personnel and ex-Department of Defence staff, the second affects ‘Australian citizens’. Both carry penalties up to 20 years imprisonment. At face value, the need to safeguard Australian military secrets makes total sense- it’s a no-brainer… but as the episode’s guest explains, the Act has raised concerns in the business community. To many, it looks like it achieved ‘The Law of Unexpected Consequences’. And today’s guest is not only perfect for the task at hand, she’s also a fascinating guest in her own right: Rhiannon Willis is an emerging leader in her field, a highly qualified lawyer. She has a history in procurement and business, and she is extremely knowledgeable in the impacts of this new regulation. Rhiannon and I have an engaging, wide-ranging and interesting conversation. Well worth a listen. #SupplyCircles is a business improvement digital production from the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group). Episodes drop Friday fortnightly. #manufacturing performance has strongly rebounded since the pandemic, with material increases in value-add, employment, exports, financial performance and capex, a new report by Australian Industry Group (Ai Group)'s Research and Economics team reveals. The Manufacturing in Australia: Performance Benchmark Report 2024 highlights key industry trends, including: ▪ Australian manufacturing is consolidating into more competitive sub-industries, with food and beverages and metals production growing as petrochemicals, machinery and other manufacturing decline; ▪ Manufacturing has faced tough cost pressures during the recent period of inflation but has also enjoyed buoyant sales price growth; ▪ Labour supply is the most acute pressure on the industry, with job vacancies at record rates, job turnover growing and wages growth at a 16-year high and ▪ While the industry's gender pay gap has fallen from 16.8 per cent to 11.2 per cent in a decade, the workforce gender composition is proving slow to change. Site visits are the best — just ask Australian Industry Group (Ai Group)'s Terry Crotty, who spent the morning learning about #steel wire ropes at Ai Group member Bekaert Australia's Mayfield East premises in #newcastle. Bekaert Australia is the country's lead producer of wire ropes and the only producer of specialised ropes. Terry's host, Stephen Hennessey, credits much of the continued success of the business to positive partnerships with local firms and fellow Ai Group members, InfraBuild and Brent & Warburton, and said he placed great value in Ai Group membership. Happy to hear! 😄 #aigroup #regionalmanufacturing #memberengagement Kylie McCoy
