For the attention of GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition teachers
If your school/college intends to enter students for GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition (8585) in summer 2019, a reminder that from 1 November 2018 the three options for the Task 2 Food preparation non-exam assessment (NEA) are released on e-AQA secure key materials (SKM).
The tasks can be given to students from 1 November so they can start to work on the NEA.
We’re here to support
- Download example NEA responses on SKM.
- Contact your designated NEA adviser for sharing teaching ideas and discussing approaches to the tasks. Adviser contact details were emailed to schools and colleges in September.
- Visit teacher online standardisation (T-OLS) to see sample NEA work that's been marked by the Lead Moderator. You mark it yourself, then compare your marks with the marks and comments of the Lead Moderator. More sample materials will be available to view in T-OLS from January 2019.

Help the BNF to develop a free online publication to support teaching
The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) is planning to develop a free online publication that explains the characteristics of good practice for delivering effective food teaching and learning to support secondary schools across the UK. The publication would support the Food teaching in schools: a framework of knowledge and skills (PHE/DfE 2015), which outlines the what, why and how of teaching each guideline within the framework.
If you would like to help inform this publication, please complete their survey.
