A word from our CEO: Dianne Kitcher

The Federal Government recently released its Closing the Gap Report for 2018, highlighting some key improvements in child mortality rates, access to early childhood education and Year 12 attainment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. However, there is still much work to be done.

As the South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network, we are committed to improving healthcare outcomes, reducing inequalities and building better patient experiences for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in our region. To do this, we are working with local ACCHOs to enhance their service capacity, and supporting local general practices and other mainstream providers to provide culturally sensitive and respectful primary care. In other news, we have appointed four General Practitioner Liaison Officers in Southern NSW, in conjunction with the Southern NSW Local Health District. The co-funded positions will provide input into planning and improving systems and services at a local level (read more here). We are currently working with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District to appoint a similar position in the Illawarra Shoalhaven.
