  • Save the date - Patient Centred Medical Home Symposium
  • Department's announcement on drug and alcohol treatment services
  • Cancer screening register delayed

A word from our CEO: Dianne Kitcher

Planning is well underway our 'Putting the patient at the centre of care' symposium which is being organised in conjunction with Peoplecare and the University of Wollongong on 29 April. It will be a great opportunity to hear first-hand from a number high-profile speakers who will share their perspectives and emerging work on the Patient Centred Medical Home (PCMH) model of care. Internationally acclaimed speaker, Professor Benjamin Crabtree, a US-based researcher and Professor at the Department of Family Practice, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University (NJ) is our keynote speaker and will share his extensive knowledge of the PCMH and the benefits to patients, practitioners and the primary care team. Make sure you have the date for this one-off event! See more details below.

In other news, the Turnbull government announced last week that it will continue to support drug and alcohol treatment services across Australia.

Under the new arrangement, more than $42 million per annum (over two years) will be transferred to Primary Health Networks (PHNs) to align with drug and alcohol treatment funding provided through the National Ice Action Strategy, of which South Eastern NSW has $5.6 million.

This continued funding for direct treatment services until 30 June 2019 is important to individuals and families struggling with drug and alcohol misuse, and will maintain the availability of treatment for people seeking help. For more information regarding the Minister’s announcement view this media release.

Finally, our Request for Proposals (RFPs) for mental health and suicide prevention initiatives closed recently. The proposals are currently being assessed by our evaluation panel against the mandatory requirements and selected criteria as outlined in the supporting documentation provided. We anticipate that the successful applicants will be announced in April. We will continue to keep you update.
