Today in the Ohio Senate

​The Senate will recognize the following during today’s Session:
  • Young Ohio Hero: Senator Bill Coley (R-Liberty Township) will recognize eight-year-old Chance Coburn of Middletown for rescuing his sister, Skylar, from an attempted kidnapping. 
  • Special Olympics Gold Medalist: Senator Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard) will honor Jabari Wilson of Hilliard on earning a Gold Medal in the pentathlon at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi. 
  • Ohio Mother of the Year: Senators Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson) and Kirk Schuring (R-Canton) will recognize Brook Harless of Canton for being named the 2019 Ohio Mother of the Year by American Mothers, Inc. 
  • High School Wrestling Champions: Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) will recognize the Genoa High School Wrestling Team for winning the OHSAA Division III State Championship and Dylan D'Emilio as the Division III State Champion in the 138-pound weight class.
  • High School Bowling Champions: Senator Peggy Lehner (R-Kettering) will recognize the Centerville Girls Varsity Bowling Team for winning the OHSAA 2019 Division I State Championship. 
  • High School Swimming State Champion: Senator Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard) will recognize Ellie Andrews of Dublin Coffman High School for winning the OHSAA Division I State Championship in the 200-yard individual medley.
The Senate will consider the following legislation during today’s Session:
  • Strengthening Penalties for Predatory Drug Trafficking: Sponsored by Senator Theresa Gavarone, (R-Bowling Green), Senate Bill 55 enhances penalties for drug trafficking when the offense is committed on the premises or within the vicinity of an addiction recovery services provider.
  • Designating Preeclampsia Awareness Month: Senate Bill 101, sponsored by Minority Leader Kenny Yuko, designates the month of May as "Preeclampsia Awareness Month" in Ohio. Preeclampsia is a pregnancy condition that can lead to serious, and sometimes fatal, complications for both the mother and baby.
