Dear Neighbor,

Happy New Year! In 2017 and 2018, my colleagues and I worked hard to pass legislation that promotes economic growth, workforce development and improves our education system. Below, I would like to highlight a few major accomplishments from this past year that will continue to make Ohio an exceptional place to live, work and raise a family.
It is exciting to see the development and accomplishments in our community as we have worked together on many important issues. As the 133rd General Assembly begins, I am reminded just how much I have learned and what a privilege it is to serve you at the state level.

As we begin a New Year, I am looking forward to the opportunities ahead as we continue to work together towards a better Ohio for all. As always, I welcome your input on legislation and issues that you are passionate about.

Sincerely,

Chosen to Serve as Majority Whip
for 133rd General Assembly
I am honored to have been chosen by my Senate colleagues to serve as the Majority Whip for the 133rd General Assembly. Official elections and swearing-ins took place during the opening session of the Ohio Senate on January 7, 2019. Other members of the Ohio Senate Majority Caucus leadership team who were sworn in include: Senator Larry Obhof reelected as President, Senator Bob Peterson reelected as President Pro Tempore and Senator Randy Gardner reelected as Majority Floor Leader.
In this position I will be responsible for monitoring legislation and securing votes for legislation on the Senate floor. I am looking forward to continuing to work alongside my colleagues to build on the progress we have made in our state.
Achieving Record Job Growth
With 568,400 new private sector jobs created since 2011, Ohio is now the #1 job creating state in the Midwest and private sector jobs are growing 39% faster than the nation (Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). The job growth we are seeing in Ohio is because of our pro-growth policies like tax cuts and regulatory reform. We will continue to build on this progress to keep Ohio moving in the right direction.

Resolution to Reform Ohio's
Congressional Redistricting Process

I sponsored SJR 5 which reforms the process for drawing Ohio’s congressional districts. Our effort reached a solution that both political parties and citizen-led reform groups heralded as a historic step forward for Ohio.

Reducing Burdensome
Mandates on Our Schools
The Senate passed the Ohio Public School Deregulation Act, designed to reduce the amount of unnecessary mandates and regulations, distracting Ohio’s teachers and superintendents from their primary role in our schools—educating students.

Ongoing Efforts to
 Combat the Opioid Crisis
Ohio has been on the front-lines of the national opioid epidemic that has impacted millions across the nation. I co-sponsored Senate Bill 1, which will help address the impact of the drug crisis by implementing new guidelines and increase penalties for drug trafficking and possession violations. I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue our effort to combat this epidemic facing our state in the coming months.
